The ‘Blue Planet Effect’ and investment

We all want to make more responsible investment choices as awareness of the potentially catastrophic effects of climate change are becoming more visible.

We are definitely seeing a huge pivot in our behaviours (most of us) and how these affect our planet and our society. For example, the products we buy are shifting towards more environmentally friendly options, we considering our own footprint and making a conscious effort to reduce waste and pollution.

In the past ‘Ethical Investments’ we the only choice for investors who wanted to match investment to their values. However, at Nelson Life we are delighted to announce that we now have access to market leading responsible investing options - for both pension and non pension investment monies.

These investments are called ESG (Environmental Social and Governance Factors).

Environmental; An investment manager can look closely at a company’s impact on land, sea, air, wildlife, plant life and the climate. They might consider things like how much energy a company uses, waste disposal, land development and carbon footprint.

Social; An investment manager can review a company’s relationship with its employees, suppliers and the community where it operates. They might consider things like labour practices, human rights, employee wellbeing, health schemes for staff and supplier relationships.

Governance; An investment manager can look at the issues that might affect a company’s management and processes. They might consider things like who’s running the company, how the company and its finances are managed, and how it approaches salaries and strategy.

We are available to discuss your options, and we look forward to hearing from you.
